Here are the three biggest storylines for the Boston Red Sox heading into their three-game series with the Angels starting Friday night.
1. Rumors persist saying Rusney Castillo will be with the team by the weekend. The guy is on a $72 million contract, so fans are getting restless seeing him hit well in Pawtucket. Considering how bad the offense has been lately, injecting some new blood into the lineup might not be a bad idea. I’m not ready to call him the savior as some are, but it can’t hurt to give him a shot.
2. Whomever plays has to get big hits. The Red Sox continue to be terrible with runners on base, failing to take advantage of the chances they do get to score runs. You can’t sit back and hope someone hits a home run, you have to string hits together, which the Sox haven’t. Boston has failed to score three runs in a game 13 times this month already.
3. For a while I didn’t think having Hanley Ramirez in left would be too big an issue, but lately it has been Whether he’s hurting himself trying to get a ball, giving up extra bases by not fielding it cleanly off the Monster, or his recent 1-foot throw, Ramirez is hurting the already shaky pitching staff.
