Jets At Patriots Preview: GameDay Staff Picks Winner Against Spread

October 15, 2014

The New York Jets travel to New England for a Thursday night game against the Patriots in Week 7. Our GameDay Is Here staff gives their predictions on the game.

New York Jets (1-5) at New England Patriots (4-2)

Thursday, 8:25 p.m., CBS

Betting Line: Jets +10

Brad Carroll (4-2 straight up, 2-4 vs. spread)

Patriots 28, Jets 21

A big part of me wants to pick the Jets to win, as they have had some success against the Patriots in the past and there is reason for this team to fight for coach Rex Ryan. But looking at the total picture, there is little chance the Jets win this game. The offense is pathetic, with Geno Smith being no more than a backup, and the defense can't stop anybody. Tom Brady is loving this matchup. And Darrelle Revis might score a TD.

Matt Straub (3-3, 2-4)

Jets 24, Patriots 20

I have no good reason except this is a spot the Jets seem to step up in. Maybe there's a little life left.

Craig Carroll (3-3, 3-3)

Patriots 24, Jets 17

Both teams have lost major contributors for the season. On a short week, with both teams short-handed, the ede goes to the home team. Jets keep it close enough to cover the spread, however.

Glenn Carroll (3-1, 3-1)

Patriots 35, Jets 17

Teams moving in different directions from start of season. Again, the Jets secondary can't cover and the offense can't be trusted to score.
